Drillin holes, fuck it, two weeks left

So we come to our last track race of the season this Sunday at Yale in New Haven, CONNECTICUT! Your's truly will be running in the 800. I'm feeling pretty good about running sub 2:05 especially after yesterdays workout. I not only felt fast but I felt strong as well, something I had been missing throughout the year. Tom and Steph are also running the 800 while Matt will be running the 400 and Khia (HAPPY 21st BIRTHDAY!) will be running the 200. Katie will be running the 3k while the rest of the distance crew is running the 5k for the final time this season. Also it looks like we will be getting the best weather we've had all season with the highs expected to be in the 80s for Sunday. This can work as a positive and a negative because with the heat it won't take long at all for our muscles to get warmed up. However this is the first time we've run in warm running since last September so I might take a little while to get adjusted to the weather change. If anything it won't be that big of an obstacle. Hopefully it'll work for us than against us and we can all put down some big PRs on Sunday. Also I want to let everyone know to check out Owen's new blog xc-thecollegelife.blogspot.com. This blog also focuses on the team as well but gets more into our lives outside of running. I'm hoping that our two blogs could parallel to each other so you can get to know us better not just as runners but also people.

Until next time,
Robbie

Today's workout

I think today's workout was something we all needed. It would to build up everyones confidence and it also showed that we re in better shape than we thought. The distance crew (Fred, Eric, Brian, Katie Wiking and Fuzzy) did 15x500 while the middies (Me and Steph Devlin) did 600, 4x200, then a empty the tank 400. It was also one of the few nice days we've had to do a workout since the weather on Long Island is so fucked most of the time in the spring. Phil and Matt did they're workouts earlier because of schedule conflicts. Tom and Owen are nursing injuries so they both had today off. Tom was able to run though so he went for about 10 miles.

We were also provided with some "entertainment" as the Nassau Community College lacrosse team was practicing on the field within the track. I'm pretty sure our current girls xc team would not have a difficult time beating them. Anyway tomorrow is an "off" day for us so I'm pretty sure the distance crew will prob get about 6 miles in while Me and Matt we just go for 4. Hopefully the weather will hold up for final two weeks of training so we can get some quality work before we leave for the summer. Thats about all I have right now, I'll prob post again in a couple days with a preview of our race at the Yale invite and also a description of the girls team.

Until then,
Robbie

Cast of Characters

Okay so before I get too far into these post I figure I should introduce those who will play a very important part in this blog. They are my teammates, my friends, my family. They are Hofstra Cross Country. I'll give a brief description of each person by class:

Jr.- Tom Daly_ He is my fellow classmate and roommate as well. He is one of the most natural athletes I've ever met.

Sophs-
Phil Giackette- One of the better runners I've ever met. Can be a little too cocky at times but he's a good kid deep, deep, deeeep down.
Eric Tremblay- One of the kids I'm closest too on the team. As a runner he is very strong mentally. Never a bad time hanging out with him.
Owen Graham- The man who carries our team GPA. He's had some bad luck with injuries but he is definitely one of the guys who holds us together.

Frosh-
Fred Shatell- Only in his 2nd year of running but he is very gifted. Was one of our top 5 last season. He's a goof ball but dependable when we need him
Ernie Pacheco- Nicknamed "Fuzzy". He's barely 5 foot and he's definitely not one of the coolest kids in the world, but he's at practice every day and he works as hard as anyone.
Greg Rogoz- He's a converted baseball player from CONNECTICUT! He's had injury problems of his own and the jury is still out on what he can do
Brian Gerardi- Definitely brings alot of character to the team. He joined us this spring and we're hoping he stays with us in the fall if he doesnt get into West Point.
Derek Lockwood- The kid is a space cadet, but he's a good runner as well. He also joined us this spring as well.
Matt Wilkens- My training partner during Track. He is by far the strongest guy on the team. He was a quarter and half miler and high school and he plans on going out for the team in the fall.

Alright, I'll do the girls on a later date but for the meantime these are the guys whose names you'll see alot in this blog.

Just a start.

So this is my first time posting on this and I have class in about 30 min so its gonna be brief. My name is Robbie Wright and I'm a runner for Hofstra University. I'm from Finksburg, MD and I'm a junior. I kinda figured I'd start a blog mainly just to show my experiences as a runner. This is my third year with the Hofstra program but this was my first year running cross country. See, in high school I ran track (100,200,300) but I played football in the fall. As you can imagine going from being a pure sprinter to what I am now (400,800,5k,8k,) was a rough process. I'll get into more detail about in a later post. Anyway we re getting towards the end of our spring season and today is a speed workout day (set of 200s or 300s) This is one of the easier workout days we have and its mainly just for developing the turn over in the legs. This workout is important because I want to race well at the Yale invite in two because it will probably be my last chance to race on a track before I start training for xc. I've felt very strong all season and n general i pretty have with the way its gone and I'm pretty excited for xc next year. Anyway I gotta get my ass to class so I'll see you later.
